What is Quality of Service (QoS) and what is QoDSL

QoS (Quality of Service) is used to prioritise delay sensitive and real-time applications across the same network infrastructure.

Tiscali network is engineered to support Quality Over contended and non-contended ADSL and SDSL. QoS is an integral part of the Tiscali VPN solution. An IPVPN can be mix and matched – you don’t have to run QoS at every site.

How does it work?

Put simply - Traffic is prioritised.

High Priority Traffic

• A defined maximum bandwidth is allocated to this traffic
• Specific traffic types are marked as high priority
• Strict priority queuing is employed - over all other traffic across the Tiscali network

All Other Traffic

• All other traffic is carried over the ADSL line and uses the bandwidth that remains
• This traffic can ‘burst’ up to total bandwidth - if the ‘high priority’ bandwidth is not fully utilised
